2758 km | 19,024 ft | 21 Days
These aren’t just numbers; they are the figures that cemented XL 100's position for dual recognition in the India Book of Records and the Asia Book of Records.
In 2025, solo rider Subrata Boral set out from Gulmarg on this Himalayan Expedition with a single intent: to take on the world’s most unforgiving mountain terrain and conquer it on India’s most trusted Heavy-Duty moped – TVS XL 100.
The Ride that Rewrote the Record Books
Flagged off from Gulmarg under the theme “Conquer Heights with Least Torque”, Boral made a strategic route for the utterly brutal pass.
Srinagar ➔ Kargil ➔ Khardung La ➔ Rezang La ➔ Umling La
This route features the highest motorable road on the planet, peaking (Umling La) at 19,024 ft above sea level, where oxygen drops to nearly half of what it is at sea level, and temperatures plummet to -40 °C in winter. Despite the immense environmental odds, Boral had absolute confidence in his XL 100.
The Day XL 100 Conquered the Summit

With no backup vehicle or mechanical support trailing behind, it was just one man, his essential gear strapped to his back and a reliable engine.
The 21-day odyssey was anything but a casual Sunday cruise. Over a gruelling stretch of 2,758 km, XL 100 Heavy-Duty faced a landscape that breaks even the toughest vehicles.
For a solo rider, it is an uphill battle; Boral knew it. He made a tactical choice by deciding to ride during quiet, dark stretches of the night; with this strategy, he swept through mountain corridors smoothly without being forced to stop for oncoming trucks and military convoys.
One by one, the passes of the north fell behind the XL 100’s 16-inch wheels. Khardung La, Chang La, Rezang La and finally the ultimate peak – Umling La. When the XL 100 finally reached the iconic yellow-and -black signboard marking 19,024 feet, the scene was surreal -

The Dual Title – Willpower Over Horsepower

Reaching the summit was an emotional victory, but the true impact of this Himalayan Expedition on XL 100 echoed far beyond the mountains when the official verifications rolled in. For this unmatched endurance of this man and machine, the expedition secured a historic double-crown:
- •“Highest Mountain Passes Covered On a 100cc Two-Wheeler by a Solo Rider”
(Asia Book of Records)
- •"First 100cc Petrol Two-Wheeler to Reach the Highest Motorable Road by a Solo Rider"
(India Book of Records)
This dual-title shatters the myth that high-altitude exploration is exclusive to premium adventure bikes. While the certificate bears Subrata Boral’s name, the victory belongs to every rider who trusts a modest, hardworking and reliable machine to get the job done.
TVS XL 100’s workhorse DNA has always been its edge. Boral’s Himalayan Expedition was more than just a display of personal willpower; it was an unscripted stress test of everything TVS Motor engineers have built into this machine.

Honouring The Machine

This moment captured during the expedition tells you everything you need to know about the journey.
By bowing to the machine, Subrata wasn’t celebrating a successful climb; he was thanking a partner who flat-out refused to give up on him. He rode with sobering knowledge that a single mechanical failure could mean being stranded in remote terrain, far from civilisation, in freezing thin air.
XL 100 didn’t need the Himalayas to prove its worth. But now that it has – the mountains agree.
