Inside TVS iQube's Global Strategy: Charting the Path to International Markets

Launched in 2021, TVS iQube has garnered impressive traction in the domestic market with its sleek and conventional design along with modern features. The competitive pricing of TVS IQube has also played a key role in this success. Furthermore, the scooter has received positive reviews throughout the automotive domain. Talking about the domestic figures in detail, TVS iQube surpassed the 200,000 sales milestone in October 2023. Now, the iQube is all set to make its presence felt beyond our borders.

Stepping Into Europe

TVS iQube is developed as per the taste and needs of Indian buyers. In the background, TVS Motor is on an acquisition spree to develop a supply chain with other EVs in the pipeline ranging from 5kW to 25kW which is currently in the development stage.

To begin with, TVS Motor announced the acquisition of a 75% stake in the Swiss E-Mobility Group (SEMG). This included EGO Movement and the legendary Norton Motorcycles which were acquired to support both supply chain expansion and technical expertise for new products. The company will use the supply chain network of this firm in Europe for its EV portfolio - iQube along with TVS X will be central to this.
In terms of other two-wheeler models, TVS Apache and TVS Jupiter are extremely popular in Turkey. That is why TVS Motor has a dedicated Euro-5-compliant portfolio in the pipeline and the company is waiting for approval from local authorities.

Southeast Asia On Radar

Leveraging the existing manufacturing plant in Karawang (Indonesia) will serve as a hub for ASEAN nations; Southeast Asia remains a crucial region for the company’s long-term electric vehicle ambitions. The company has also announced an investment in Singaporean Electric two-wheeler startup Ion Mobility.
In all of this, a dedicated campaign named the project “Dynamo” has been developed. The project is Ion Mobility’s conceptual adaptation of TVS Motor’s premium flagship electric crossover, TVS X. The project is targeted towards Indonesian riders who prioritize performance. Both TVS Motor and Ion Mobility aim to bring their respective design and technical expertise to produce innovative electric vehicles in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries.

Betting Big in Latin America

TVS Motor already has a strong supply chain for its three-wheelers and plans to use this to expand the EV portfolio. To further enhance its footprint, in 2021, the company announced its new distribution partner with Active Motor SA. The partnership will provide TVS Motor with dedicated sales, spares and customer relationship management.
Active Motors SA will facilitate the opening of three flagship outlets and 50 dealerships in a phased manner in Costa Rica and Nicaragua. TVS Motor already has a strong presence in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. In October 2023, TVS Motor became the first Indian automobile OEM to enter the Venezuelan market with a total of 14 SKUs as planned for the Venezuelan rider enthusiasts.
With excellent market reviews, the TVS iQube electric scooter and the newly launched TVS X are crucial products for the company. iQube, much like the domestic market, can excel in getting the attention of mainstream e-scooter buyers in these global markets. TVS X, on the other hand, is going to redefine the super-premium category of e-scooters globally.
