TVS Motor Reports PBT Rs. 42.01 & PAT Rs. 27.18 Crores Turnover of Rs. 618.07 Crores

TVS Motor Company recorded revenue of Rs. 618.07 crores in the first quarter ended June 2004 compared to Rs. 671.05 crores achieved in the corresponding period last year. Profit before tax was at Rs. 42.01 crores compared to Rs. 50.04 crores achieved last year during the same period and Profit after tax for the first quarter stood at Rs. 27.18 crores compared to Rs. 32.08 crores achieved during the same period last year.

During the first quarter ended June 04 TVS-M launched TVS Victor GLX 125 and the response has been very good. The excellent advertising campaign and the ground level promotional activities in New Delhi involving Brand Ambassador Sachin Tendulkar has generated a great deal of interest for this product across the country.

TVS Centra has established itself as a motorcycle with phenomenal mileage and has witnessed a steady growth in its sales. The advertising campaign and promotion activities in the form of 'Mileage Challenge' have propelled TVS Centra as a preferred motorcycle.

With the recent launch of Victor GLX, the 'TVS Victor' brand has received a further boost and both variants of TVS Victor and TVS Centra together will enhance TVS M's presence in the executive segment of the motorcycle in the coming months.

However, the fall in sales of 2-stroke motorcycle continued to affect TVS-M's motorcycle sales in the entry-level segment. The company will arrest this decline with the launch a four-stroke motorcycle in the second quarter in this segment.

During the quarter, TVS Scooty sales witnessed significant growth. The new advertising campaign involving Bollywood star Preity Zinta has attracted good response for Scooty Pep enabling it to penetrate into new markets.

TVS-M posted a growth in the moped market and strengthened its leadership in this market.

TVS Motor Company exported 12,188 units of two wheelers in the first quarter of this fiscal as against 4617 units sold during the same period last year registering a growth of 164%.
