TVS MOTOR REPORTS PBT Rs. 214.53 & PAT Rs. 138.49 TURNOVER OF Rs. 2,856.42 CRORES

The company crosses the one million mark, recording a sale of 1.14 million two-wheelers for the second year in a row.

TVS Motor Company achieved gross revenue of Rs 2,856.42 crores in 2003-04 growth of 4.8 % (over revenue of Rs. 2725.40 crores achieved during 2002-03). The Profit Before Tax (PBT) for 2003-04 was Rs. 214.53 crores a growth of 6.7 % (over last year PBT of Rs. 201.14 crores.) Similarly the Profit After Tax (PAT) for 2003-04 was Rs. 138.49 crores a growth of 8.2 % (over last year PAT of Rs. 127.95 crores.) TVS Motor Company has already declared two interim dividends totaling to 130 % for the year 2003-04.

The year 2003 - 04 saw multiple product launches by TVS-M and sales of vehicles crossed the one million mark for the second consecutive year.

TVS Centra - 4 stroke 100cc motorcycle was launched in the executive segment with the revolutionary VT-i technology and has clocked sales of over 70,000 units since its launch. June 2004 saw an increase in the advertising and marketing support for Centra, which will lead to a surge in sales in the coming months.

The Victor GL an upgrade of TVS Victor incorporating 21 improvements with new looks was launched in June 2003. TVS Victor continued its impressive showing and has crossed sales of over 900,000 units since its launch. The recently launched TVS Victor GLX 125 cc has further strengthened this brand.

This was followed by the launches of Fiero F2 & Fx - upgrades of the 4 stroke 150cc Fiero in the premium motorcycle segment. Fiero continues to maintain its niche market.

In 4-stroke motorcycles category, TVS-M range of motorcycles, comprising of Centra, Victor & Fiero posted a higher growth of 28% as compared to the Industry 4-stroke motorcycle category growth of 22 % during 2003-04.

Addressing the press conference, Mr. Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director stated, "the launch of Victor GLX and the scheduled launch of MAX 4 -Stroke, will not only arrest the decline but will propel TVS Motor Company on a positive growth curve."

The cumulative sales of TVS Scooty crossed the magic one million-unit mark in March 2004 with a growth of 24.1% during 2003-04 over the previous year. This growth was higher than that of the industry growth of just 22.7% and propelled the market share of TVS Motor Company to 29% in the variomatic scooters category.

TVS-M posted a growth in the moped market and strengthened its leadership in this market with a share of 73.4%.

TVS Motor Company witnessed a record growth of over 175% in the export market. The Company exported 28,043 units of two wheelers in 2003 - 04 as against 10,152 units sold during the same period last year. The export turnover of Rs. 69 crores is substantially higher than the Rs. 25 crores achieved during the previous year.
