Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Motor Company, one of India's leading two-wheeler manufacturing company was conferred with a Doctorate Degree in Science by United Kingdom's University of Warwick at an impressive ceremony held yesterday at the University campus. Mr Srinivasan personally received the Honorary Doctorate of Science Degree from Vice Chancellor David VandeLinde in a congregation along with other achievers in their respective fields. Present at this formal ceremony were Britain's top dignitaries in the field of education.
The University of Warwick conferred this recognition to Mr. Srinivasan for his excellence in manufacturing and contribution in the field of Technology and Research & Development. It is under his leadership that TVS Motor Company emerged as a leading manufacturer of two wheelers in the world competing against Global two-wheeler giants by adopting a work culture that can match the best in the world through persistence, hard work and self-belief.
Mr. Srinivasan's relentless pursuit and obsession in achieving total quality led to Sundaram Clayton and TVS Motor Company winning the global quality benchmark - the Deming Application Prize. Venu Srinivasan is also credited with pioneering the TQM (Total Quality Management) based on the Japanese model, long before most enterprises in India did it. He is also credited with the title "Star of Asia" awarded by Leading International magazine, Business Week in 2003.
After excelling in engineering from Madras University, Mr. Srinivasan completed his MBA from Purdue University (USA) in 1977, and took over as the CEO of Sundaram Clayton in 1979, the parent company of TVS Motor Company. TVS Motor Company was born in 1979 and very rapidly grew to be a leading Corporation in India under his leadership.
