Why It Makes Sense to Buy an Electric Scooter in Gujarat

The overall push for EV and its infrastructure is rapid and sustained throughout the country. A shining example of this transition is Gujarat. With its EV subsidy, Gujarat is one of the front runners in embracing the EV age.

As of June 2023, there are 152 charging stations in the state, and another 250 public charging points are being built. Within the same time frame, the Gujarat Govt. has also announced the establishment of a manufacturing facility for the production of lithium-ion cells. With a production capacity of 20 GWh, it will be India’s first lithium-ion facility.

One thing is clear – there’s a vision in place for the required infra as well as policies in the form of electric vehicle subsidy in the state of Gujarat. As of now, the Government of Gujarat is offering a maximum subsidy of INR 10,000 for two-wheelers and 50,000 for three-wheelers with a total budget of INR 133 crore to be disbursed. The key objectives are: -

To encourage investment and make the state a manufacturing hub for e-mobility.
To broaden the EV industry through favorable policies and create jobs.
To reduce air pollution and subsequently diminish the carbon footprint.

The Go Green Yojana is an initiative that complements the EV subsidy by the Government of Gujarat, enabling workers in organized and unorganized sectors to avail the EV subsidy. Primarily, the initiative is for the anchorage of industrial and construction workers within the state to have subsidized rates for buying battery-operated electric vehicles. The policy will also help the Indian Govt. in the successful implementation of the Go Green India mission.
It is the perfect time to buy an electric scooter, as TVS Motor has recently launched two new variants to give consumers more choice. The entry-level (2.2kWh) TVS iQube and flagship TVS iQube ST, introductory price for the entry level TVS iQube starts as low as INR 94,999*.
Don't wait, as this is a limited-period introductory price.

Does it make sense to purchase an electric two-wheeler in Gujarat?
The simple answer is “Yes”. The state government is intending to build an environment to promote the push for e-mobility. The charging infra too is also expanding rapidly in the state. In 2021, the Government of Gujarat allotted a budget of INR 870 crore dedicated to the expansion of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles.
So, the near future for e-mobility in Gujarat is bright. Apart from cities and highways, remote areas are also on the radar of the state government in an effort to make last-mile connectivity viable for both domestic/commercial EVs.
On a national level, in FY2022-23, a total of 6 states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu accounted for 60% of the EV sales. In Gujarat, Surat is the hot spot for EV sales (21000+ in FY22-23) followed by Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Rajkot. These sales figures account for a positive consumer sentiment about improvement in road infrastructure and constantly maturing EV infrastructure.

Note - The EV subsidy policy will be in effect for four years and will be granted to a total of two lakh electric vehicles under this policy.
