So, here are five tips to beat the price hike: Shut off the engine when you’re stationary When stationary at a red light or in any other situation, turn your motorcycle’s engine off. This is a very simple but highly effective way to minimize fuel consumption. Accelerate gently Gentle acceleration reduces the throttle openings required to achieve cruising speeds. Smaller throttle openings translate to less fuel injection into the engine. Coast to a stop Coasting to a stop when you know that you’ll have to slow down is a great way to conserve fuel. We’ll list a couple of examples here. 1. When you know that there is a red light ahead, you can pull the clutch in and coast to the traffic light rather than coming in fast and then braking hard to stop. 2. When you know that your parking spot is just a few meters away, it’s good to coast to the stop. Upshift early Shifting to higher gears early—but not too early—is another good way to conserve fuel. Cruise at a steady speed in top gear Cruising at a steady speed with minimal use of the clutch and brakes will ensure that the motorcycle sips the least amount of fuel on the highway.
