TVS Scooty records 21% growth in May 2004

TVS Motor Company's total two wheeler sales in May 2004 stood at 80,895 units compared to 96,203 units, during the same period last year.

The total motorcycle sales in May 2004 stood at 43,180 units compared to 63,973 units in the same period last year. This decline was mainly due to the continued drop in sales of two-stroke motorcycles and planned marketing initiatives to inject Victor GLX 125, which will be available nationally by mid June 2004. Together with the present Victor GL 110 CC the volumes of Victor series will see a boost in the coming months.

TVS Centra continued to receive excellent market response and has crossed the 60,000 mark since its launch in end January 2004.

The Scooterette sales achieved an impressive growth of 21% clocking 17,321 units in May 2004 compared to 14,334 units recorded last year. Recently the TVS Scooty brand crossed the 1 million-unit mark and it continues to be the market leader in the scooterette segment.

Moped sales stood at 20,394 units in May 2004 compared to 17,896 units in the same period last year, registering a growth of 14%. The company continues to enjoy market leadership and has performed exceptionally well compared to the industry.

In the export front, TVS Motor Company received an overwhelming response having exported 4003 units in May 2004, the highest exports ever achieved by the company. It recorded a growth of 162% compared to the same period last year.
