TVS Motors posts 4% growth in March 2009

Scooters grow at 44% Exports up 25%
 
Buoyed by a robust 44% growth in its scooter sales and a significant 25% increase in exports, TVS Motor Company has posted 4% growth in March 2009, registering total two wheeler sales of 121,988 units against 117,045 units in the corresponding period of the previous year. Cumulative growth in sales for the financial year April 2008 to March 2009 stood at 3%.

The recently launched TVS Scooty Streak has been extremely well received in the market and contributed handsomely to sales. Scooters sales increased 44% registering 22,975 units in March 2009 when compared to 15,942 units recorded in March 2008.

The Company exported 16,340 units of two wheelers in March 2009 as against 13,070 units in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering a growth of 25%. Exports continued its overall growth trend, registering 41% increase in cumulative sales.

Motorcycle sales of the company stood at 55,754 units in comparison to 60,908 units recorded in March 2008. However, cumulative motorcycle sales for the period April 2008 to March 2009 recorded 3% growth when compared to the same period of the previous year.

During the month, the company won the 2009 Progressive Manufacturer 100 award for end-to-end automation of the entire business process of its lubricant brand, TVS TRU4. Instituted by US based Managing Automation Media, the progressive manufacturing awards program is designed to support and reflect the extensive drive by manufacturers across the globe to improve and capitalize on growth opportunities. 100 projects that achieved distinction in at least one of the eight core disciplines defined by Managing Automation Media were recognised.

In a first of its kind tie-up, TVS Motor company joined hands with Coca-cola India in an innovative cross-category tie-up to co-partner the latters novel Thunder Wheels initiative. Through this, consumers stand a chance to win an Apache RTR 160 motorcycle. In fact, this is the first time TVS is associating the Apache brand in a cross-category marketing initiative at the national level.

During the month, California and New Delhi based Greentech Foundation, announced the winners of its Greentech Safety Award 2009 selecting TVS Motor Company in the silver category for its outstanding achievement in safety management. Greentech Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to recognize and celebrate ethos of extraordinary performance in safety issues. These awards recognize, reward and promote exceptional goals in the field of safety and all positive aspects of environmental responsibilities.
