TVS Motor Company records 2 % growth in two-wheeler sales. TVS Centra meets with an impressive response

TVS Motor Company sales in January 2004 stood at 98,020 units compared to 96,409 units registered during the same period last year, recording a 2 % growth.
The total motorcycle sales in January 2004 stood at 59,844 units compared to 61,223 units in the same period last year. Motorcycle sales have grown by 14 % over December 2003 sales, reversing the trend, despite the drop in sales of its two stroke Max Motorcycles.

TVS Centra, the world-class four-stroke motorcycle recently launched by TVS Motor Company has got an excellent initial market response. With the ramping up of capacity, TVS Centra sales will grow month after month. The motorcycle sales were further augmented by the sale of Fiero motorcycle driven by good customer response for Fiero F2. TVS Victor recently crossed yet another landmark of surpassing 8 lakh units since its launch in September 2001. The company is confident that with the launch of TVS Centra and other new models in the coming months, the overall motorcycle sales will record stronger and accelerated growth.

The Scooterette sales grew by 14 % clocking 14,771 units in January 2004 compared to 12,947 units corresponding period last year, which was due to Scooty pep. TVS Motor Company continues to dominate the market in ungeared below 100 cc Scooterette segment.

Moped sales stood at 23,405 units in January 2004 compared to 22,239 units in the same period last year, registering a growth of 5 %. TVS Motor Company continues to maintain its market leadership in this segment and has done exceptionally well compared to the industry.

In the export front, TVS Motor Company achieved a new landmark by crossing over 3,000 units in January 2004 for the first time ever. The total exports surged to 21,815 units during the period April 2003 to January 2004 recording a growth of 178 % compared to the same period last year.
