TVS Motor Company exports up 18 % ; 89,285 two-wheeler sales in December 2008

TVS Motor Company has registered two wheeler sales of 89,285 units in December 2008 against 97,576 units in the corresponding period of the previous year Cumulative growth for the current financial year, April to December 2008 stood at 2% Exports continued its upward growth, registering 49% increase in sales when compared to the same period of the previous year. During the month, the Company exported 16,930 units of two wheelers as against 14,402 units in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Motorcycle sales of the company stood at 40,057 units in comparison to 51,293 units recorded in December 2007. However, the cumulative sales for the period April to December 2008 registered 2% growth when compared to the same period of the previous year. Inflation, inadequate availability of retail finance and high interest rates continued to deter purchase decisions of customers and affected sales.

During the month, the company added an upgrade of the Apache RTR 160 equipped with rear disc brakes to its premium segment. The Apache RTR 160 RD is fitted with a 200mm Rear Petal Disc Brake.

In response to the reduction in central value added tax by the government, the company reduced prices between Rs. 700 and Rs. 2000 across its two wheeler models, thereby passing on the benefits of the duty cut to consumers.
